10 Awesome New Inventions That You Will Never Hear About

We are accustomed to so many inventions nowadays that we take them for granted, ignoring the fact that these innovations started out as a drawing on a piece of paper. Here’s a fun fact, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office received 520,277 applications from inventors so far! What follows is the list of top 10 inventions that are mind blowing when it comes to creativity, but are unlikely to gain significant market share for one reason or another.

10. Mind Control

Military helmet in use by the U.S. military has undergone some improvements over time but nothing compared to what the future has in store for it. U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is funding an Arizona State University researcher who’s attempting to come up with a helmet that can help in regulating soldier’s brain. Transcranial pulsed ultrasound targets certain parts of brain to activate specific functions and emotions. Results of such targeted sound waves is control over particular actions; being alert even if you haven’t slept for days or to stop feeling pain. Of course there are debates about the ethical values of such a helmet but still this could prove very helpful in modern warfare!

9. P&P office Waste Paper Processor

Chinese inventors have come up with an idea to utilize used paper. The idea is creative, however it falls short when looked at with a more practical approach. The P&P office Waste Paper Processor turns paper into pencils. Surprised? Don’t be. The machine made it to the finals in the 2010 Lite-On Awards. Simply put, all that you need to do is to feed waste paper to the machine. It compresses and rolls it followed by insertion of lead, a bit of glue and there you go! A pencil comes out of the machine. The drawback is that pencils are no longer used in offices, and such a machine wont find its market in offices. Also the lead and glue might only just add to your cost rather than minimizing it so chances of this innovation making it to the market are quite less!

8. PrePeat rewritable printer

Did your printer just stop printing because your toner is dead?! Or did you just run out of paper? Wouldn’t it be much easier if they made toner less and paperless printers? Sanwa Newtec, a Japanese company, in fact does make them. PrePeat rewritable printer is your solution. It requires plastic paper and using dyes with temperature changes, the printer works quite effortlessly! Leuco dyes are used that are sensitive to temperature. The company claims that their paper can be used a thousand times before it needs to be replaced! The only problem is the cost, it is highly unlikely for an average PC user to go for this type of printer.

7. Lockheed martin’s Samarai micro-drone

After the Sep 11 attacks, Pentagon has spent much on military weapons. New advancements are being made and the budget for these researches is enormous. Lately, the use of drones for attacking remote targets and reconnaissance is becoming more and more popular. Nano air vehicles are basically an upgrade to your typical drone. The regular drone usage results in undesired casualties and collateral damage. Lockheed martin’s Samarai micro-drone solves this problem. It weighs a hundred and fifty grams and has a twelve inch wingspan. The drone’s ultimate goal is to be able to take out individual targets without collateral damage and to conduct reconnaissance.

6. BIOME Concept Car

Mercedes-Benz accepted the Los Angeles Design Challenge and came up with the BIOME concept car. The car weighs almost 400 kilograms and is made from BioFibre. Here’s the thing that might come as a shock for you! The car will not be assembled, it will grow from seeds. A total of six seeds will be used; four for the wheels and two seeds with one for exterior and one for interior. The car is ahead of its time and might be available after 20 or 30 years of dedicated research and thinking!

5. The Armstar Bodyguard 9XI-HD01

Taking self defense to a new level and somewhat inspired by the body armor wore by Batman in recent Bat movies; The Armstar Bodyguard 9XI-HD01 is here to surprise you all. It was designed to be a non-lethal defensive weapon and a communication device. Equipped with Kevlar and hard plastic, the machine has an electronic deterrent device that can zap any assailant by just pulling a pin. The device comes with an HD camera, a charging slot and a bright LED flashlight. The drawback once again being the same as that of Batman; it costs too much!

4. Bat suit

We are inspired by Bats and Batman, are we not? This new invention is once again a flying suit that is inspired from bat’s flying style. The suit has rigid and non-rigid parts that can be manipulated by the user. The tricky part is getting off the ground. Question here being, is this really practical?

3. Cat Toy Park

Own a cat? Then you are probably well aware of the mischief they get into once they are bored! An inventor in 2009 came up with a solution in the form of ‘Cat Toy Park’. The device comes with a number of activities for your cat. We have a scratching post, a tunnel, a chew toy and a device used to blow up bubbles to keep your cat occupied! The drawback is the fact that the cat might choose not to play with your expensive Cat Toy Park and you might end up selling it on EBay to someone!

2. License Plate Flipper

Be as cool as James Bond with this invention! Electronic License-plate flipper costs you only $79.00 and works by pressing a button which flips the plate to make visible the underlying plate displaying any message that you want for the driver behind you! There are some catches to this device though. It could get you into trouble with authorities since number plates and their switching doesn’t sound too police-friendly. The company has stated explicitly that this device is to be used for off-road purposes only. The user takes full responsibility for the liabilities linked with the use of this product.

1. Robotic Exterminators

Imagine you owned robotic devices that hunt for mice and other insects, digesting them and then using this to produce their own power!! We have in store for you; a mousetrap coffee table robot, Lampshade robot whose target will be flies and moths, Cobweb robot to hunt spiders and flypaper robotic clock. The prey will be digested-chemically broken down- and will be used to charge a microbial fuel cell. An indicator would indicate how much energy is being produced. These are still concepts which might become realistic in the future; your coffee table could be the worst nightmare for mice in future!
